Halloween At ULG
23.10.13 by Lucy Self
Try as one might (and we have, believe us) there’s no escaping Halloween – particularly in London where every restaurant and bar takes to All Hallows Eve like a sharp knife to a pumpkin. If you can’t beat ‘em, spook ‘em we say, so here’s our selection of ULG happenings on the scariest night of the year…
Known for its cocktails served in paint tins, its no surprise that our Soho-based gin bar Graphic have turned their attentions to cauldrons for Halloween. They will be going over to the dark side on the 31st with gin-laced punches served in black paint tins complete with dry ice and a ‘volcanic finish’ (to find out exactly what that means we suggest you get down there). As if that wasn’t enough, they’re giving out free shots of gin all night to folks who turn up dressed as Walter White. So if you’re a fan of Breaking Bad (or dressing up), now’s the time to get creative!
There’s nothing like taking a theme and running with it, which is exactly what our Maida Vale pub, The Elgin have done. Their “Pumpkin Fest” menu (think Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin Soup and anything else they can stick the sweet-fleshed squash into) will be available from 28th – 3rd October. With all those dasterly dishes, you’ll be wanting something to wash it down and what could be more perfect that the limited edition (you guessed it) Pumpkin Ale, from London Fields Brewery’s Bootlegger series.
NB. Rumour has it a ghostly figure has been seen hanging out at one of the tables, and on more than one occasion the music been turned up WHEN NO ONE HAS TOUCHED IT! Spooky.
Central & Co.
With its classic brasserie interior, Central & Co. on Great Marlborough Street doesn’t exactly lend itself to spider webs and novelty hanging lanterns. Instead they’re getting into the spirit with a series of spine tingling cocktails available all night on the 31st. So you can toast the twilight in style…
There's a SERIOUS party going on at our North London bar The Gallery and its on the 2nd (everyone knows the best night of the week is a Friday). Open til 2am, there's plenty of time to enjoy everything they have to offer from spooktacular cocktails to toffee apple bobbing to a gigantic bowl of petrifying punch. And to encourage a little healthy Halloween competition, the best costume gets a £100 bar tab. Fake blood at the ready kids.
Alice House West Hampstead
If you’re not Halloweened-out by Saturday 2nd (or if you just fancy a party), our elegant West Hampstead bolt hole The Alice House is hitching up a haunted extravaganza. Dance the ghouls away with a live DJ from 9pm-1am, or arrive before 8pm in fancy dress and they’ll hit you up with a shot free of charge.
There you have it folks, Halloween at Urban Leisure Group in a nutshell. Before we go howl at the moon, we’ll leave you with a few fancy dress suggestions from our lovely team.
