Outside The Box

Here at ULG, we’re MASSIVE fans of festivals (any excuse to dance and drink in the day is fine with us…) and one of our favourites has to be Lovebox in London’s very own Viccy Park. Taking place between 19th-21st July - this year’s line up is better than ever, with two days of great music including Goldfrapp and Lil Kim, ‘Sarcastic Disco’ (whatever that is) and even a pop-up photo-studio from Smashbox.
As much as we’d love to be there, we’ll be busy doing what we do best, knocking up knock out food, concocting kick ass cocktails and being modest (obvs). So if you, like us, haven’t got a Lovebox ticket this year – here’s few reasons to spend the weekend of the 19th at one of our ULG venues…
Alice House Queens Park & West Hampstead
Unlike most festivals where the likelihood of getting a decent, not to mention well-iced, drink is pretty much zero, both of our lovely Alice House pubs have an enviable list of proper plonk in much comfier surrounds. Who could feel bad about missing live music in a field when they’re sipping a glass of our potent Tea Pot Punch or Jam Jar Shooters lounging in our library? No one, we say.
We’ve got one word for you… gin. With over 180 types of the good stuff, Graphic will take you on a juniper-based trip with funk and electro swing beats to smooth away even the strongest of festival regret. And if you happen to get a hankering for some al fresco dancing, you can always nip over to Golden Square opposite for a bit of impromptu swaying.
The one thing you’re unlikely to get at a festival is proper food. Wipe out bad memories of overcooked falafel and overpriced burgers at our Maida Vale pub-cum-restaurant-cum-café The Elgin. Here you’ll find nothing but great value, perfectly-prepared grub – served up with an enviable range of British beers, real ale and delicious wine. Once you’ve chowed down on our chorizo cooked in port soaked up in hunks of fresh sour dough (which Mr Hyde recently declared a ‘standout’ dish) – you wont even remember what Lovebox is…
